Orlando Roman is a PhD candidate in Development Economics at the Geneva Graduate Institute. His research interests are at the intersection of Development Economics, Political Economy, and Economic History. His PhD dissertation examines the long-term effects of colonial-era private concession companies on modern-day human development outcomes in Mozambique.

Prior to graduate school, he worked for the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, focusing on research related to poverty and inequality of opportunity in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals. He holds a MSc in Economics from the University of Amsterdam, and a BSc in Economics from the Autonomous University of Madrid. 

Orlando is originally from Caracas, Venezuela. Prior to 2023, he published under his full name, Orlando Zambrano Roman.
